The Ultimate Kayak Trip!!! |

The Dangers I brought the UKT up on the Rocky Mountain Sea Kayak forum a year or so ago, and I got a lot of useful information. After thinking about it some I came up with the following possible dangers in order and percentage's (made up) of possibility: 1) Not allowed - The Gob'mit or some conglomeration of islands owners will band together and say "No way Jose's!". 2) 1.01% Poisoning - Eating a poisonous fish and becoming paralized. 3) 1% Wind blowing us into a boat - There are lots of boats out there and lots of wind, put them together and something bad could happen I suppose. 4) .9% Getting tangled in our ropes after flipping over and drowning - I'm imaging some freak storm where the waves are gargantuan and breaking over our heads and we go over and then move waves come crashing on us and we drown. 5) .5% Shark attack - I read in a book about kayak accidents about a guy who was attacked by a shart. It picked him all the way out of the water and he was sinking when he got to shore. They were watching a sea lion colony. 6) .4% Pirate's - Someone on the forum said they had friends who got killed for their boat. We will be a not less visible than a sailboat though wiht a lot less booty. 7) .003% Bubble comes from below and swamp the boat and sinks us - This is one of the theories for boats dissapearing in the Bermuda triangle. 8) .034% Rogue Wave - I saw on the History Channel there are about six rough waves in the world at any given point. It is concievable that a rough wave could take us out. We're not going to worry about that though because there's nothing we could do about it. 9) Getting washed up on the rocks - Maybe we'll get blown into the rocks, or not notice how big the waves were before docking. 10) .01% Getting abducted by aliens - However much I would like to be abducted by aliens. I think if I was abducted they would bring me back. 11) .02% Getting washed so far out into sea that we die of starvation - It would take weeks and weeks of hard wind to push us so far out that even though we are paddling the whole time we can't make headway AND our Sat phone goes out and we don't see anyone and can't catch any fish. 12) Getting stuck in the mud somewhere and dying of starvation - Don't think so. |
